10. CHOOSING FLOWERS.
sometimes, you don’t need to know what they’re called.
One of the things people often tell us is…
“I don’t know anything about flowers.”
And that’s perfectly alright…
You don’t need to know the difference between a rose and a ranunculus.
You don’t need to remember which flowers are in season.
And you certainly don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what an arrangement should look like.
Sometimes, the more useful things to tell us are much simpler.
Who are the flowers for?
What are you celebrating?
Is there a colour they love?
Do you want something quiet and gentle…
or something that walks into the room before you do?
Perhaps you saw something we made before and liked the feeling of it.
That is already enough for us to begin…
Then comes our part.
We look at what is in front of us.
We choose. We move things around.
Sometimes we take something out and begin again.
somewhere in the middle of figuring it out.
Because choosing flowers isn’t really about memorising flower names.
It is about understanding the person, the occasion and what you are trying to say.
The flowers come after…
And sometimes, leaving a little room for the florist to choose can lead to something you might never have thought to ask for.
tell us the story.
we’ll find the flowers.
